Speaking at a funeral? Here's 5 things to help you nail it.
1. Emotions are normal. No one is going to judge you if you get emotional. In fact, you're more likely to be judged if you don't show any emotion.
2. If you need to compose yourself, step back from the lectern, use a tissue and sip some water. Take your time. Restart when you're ready
3. Dates and locations are boring. Tell stories about the guest of honour. What's your favorite memory? Why were they important to you? What did you learn from them?
4. Keep the focus on the guest of honour. It's easy to drift into making yourself the centre of attention
5. This is not the time to blame, accuse or ostracise guests, family members or the guest of honour. Keep it light. Uncomfortable conversations can wait until another day.
