Funerals are a service with the guest of honour present in a coffin or a casket.
Memorials don’t have the body present. There may be ashes or a photo’s of the guest of honour.

Yes and No.
You’ll need a registered organisation to arrange burial or cremation, but you can DIY the farewell service.

As much or as little as you would prefer. Some people want ever detail documented and paid for. Other want just the basics- like a direct cremation. What’s important is to clearly record in writing exactly what’s included.
The elements you can pre-pay must be specific to the farewell service. Catering at the reception cannot be pre- paid.

That depends on where the death takes place. Most people will pass at a hospital or aged care facility. A medical practitioner will announce the death. If the death occurs at home an ambulance officer will do so or the doctor at the hospital they’re taken to will. The funeral director is contacted and the deceased is transferred to a mortuary facility. A second doctor verifies the death. The next step is determined by the family. It may be cremation or burial with or without a service. This where pre paid services can be very helpful.

Absolutely.
There’s a wide range of options available with prices ranging from $350 to $15,000. Michael Jacksons gold casket was $50,000.
You can even arrange a cardboard coffin your family can paint and decorate to personalise your farewell.

Absolutely.
Most people planning on being buried choose the location well before they need to. Scattering ashes can be done almost anywhere. If it’s legal, we’ll do it. Keeping in mind other people having a swim at the beach may not want to be swimming with your ashes.

There are unlimited ways to spend money at the farewell service. You can buy a nice urn, have the ashes turned into a concrete artifical ocean reef, compressed into a diamond, have monuments at cemetery’s built.
Or, you can keep it simple. It’s your choice.

You can change your mind anytime before the death occurs. If you decide to be buried rather than cremated or cremated rather than buried, that’s fine. It simple needs to be documented and any additional costs will need to be paid for.
